What Causes Red Stems In Cannabis Plants? 🌳🔴🔍🕵️♂️🤷♀️
|
|
You’re checking on your plants, things have been going pretty well. Then one day you notice a plant has bright red stems. Maybe there are other symptoms, too, like burnt leaf edges/tips, clawing/curling leaves, or yellowing. A common cannabis plant symptom is red stems. What does it mean? You love your plants, so what do you do? What causes a cannabis plant’s stems to turn red or purple? There are a few different causes of red stems so I’ll share the most common ones below. Once you go through this list, you’ll be armed with more information to help keep your plants healthy and happy. Here are 6 common causes of red stems in
cannabis plants: 1.) A “Sun Tan” If a stem is totally exposed to strong direct light, it will often turn red, pink, or purple over time. If this is the cause, you’ll likely notice that any parts of the stem that are in shade will stay green. This is a defense mechanism by the plant to protect the stems from too much light. This type of red coloring is especially common with grow lights the produce a lot of UV
light such as LEC grow lights (bonus: those same UV rays increase trichome production!). With the rise of plant training techniques that expose bare stems, such as manifolding or defoliation, red stems caused by direct light is more common than ever. In this case, you probably have nothing to worry about as long as you aren’t seeing any other symptoms and plants are growing fast and healthy. This video shows how the stems/petioles lower in the plant are the typical green color. However, if you look closely at the stems higher on the plants, the tops have
turned red wherever they’re getting direct exposure to light. Light exposure can be a major contributor to red stems. 2.) Genetics Some plants (especially strains that produce purple buds or leaves) will naturally grow colorful stems. These stems may be perceived as "red", though typically look closer to purple than bright red. In this case, the purple color appears on stems all over the plant as opposed to just places that are getting
light. There’s nothing to worry about in this situation, so you can just enjoy the pop of color 🙂

If you're not familiar with growing mushrooms, check out my article about growing cannabis vs growing magic mushrooms. I’ll be releasing the planned article on using isolated liquid culture syringes next week (here’s a trustworthy source of isolated genetics in the meantime). But I rescheduled that to next week after I got this excellent email from Sandra, Good morning, Nebula and Sirius. I have a question about mushrooms that comes from complete naivete. What *feeling* can one expect from eating them? I have never tried them and am very intrigued about growing
them. Sandra That's a great question Sandra! It made me realize I’ve talked quite a bit about growing mushrooms, but not about actually using them. Considering that's why we grow them, I felt I should give an intro into the “doing” part of magic mushrooms. In general terms, here's what to expect after eating magic mushrooms (Psilocybe cubensis strain): - Heightened senses - Colors may seem more vibrant or beautiful. Music may sound more profound or meaningful.
- Visual hallucinations - At smaller doses, mushrooms may make the world seeming “sparkly”. At higher doses, your visual experience will change. This Youtube video is a pretty decent simulation of what the visual aspect of tripping is like. Especially at 3:51 and 6:54.
- Altered perception of time and space - It is extremely common to feel like time is moving slower. You may feel fascinated by patterns and textures. Some people will experience an immersive trip in their imagination.
- New Perspectives - Many people describe seeing the world from a fresh viewpoint. It's common to feel more empathy and appreciation of nature and other people.
- Powerful emotions - Everyday experiences may result in a sense of childlike wonder or awe. Many people have revelations about feeling connected with the universe and others. It can be a profound experience that
is hard to describe.
That’s the good part. Now here are some risks and potential downsides: - Bad trips - A bad trip is the biggest risk for most people when taking mushrooms. Some people may experience severe anxiety, panic attacks, or frightening hallucinations. Bad trips are most common at high doses, in an uncomfortable environment, if you were already in a poor
mood, or around bad company. Dose carefully and only take mushrooms with people you trust and when you're already feeling good.
- Stomach ache - Many people experience a sour stomach or unhappy stomach after eating mushrooms. A lemon juice extraction (the “lemon tek” method of preparing mushrooms) is recommended to help reduce the chance of stomach upset.
Summary: Like weed, cubensis mushrooms are low toxicity (there are no confirmed cases of someone overdosing on mushrooms). But that doesn’t mean they come without risks. It’s important to dose properly and only trip in a good environment with people you trust. I want to hear your thoughts! What were your experience with using mushrooms so far (good or bad)? Hit the reply button to let us know. And stay tuned for
next week's article on liquid culture!

"Aloha Nebula and team, just wanted to say thank you for your great web site and the amazing amount of free info you share. I am a medical patient in Hawaii, and your site has guided me in the right direction so many times, and I am so grateful to be finally fairly successful at growing. This along with having amazing results with ilgm and seed supreme, I have been able to skip the dispensary, and have plenty of great medicine for my needs. You are all so appreciated!" ~Ron I'm glad you've been able to gain your independence from dispensaries! Why pay them so much when you do a better job yourself? 💸 ~Sirius

"I have received 2 of your Sunday newsletters and really enjoyed them. Thanks for your great web site."

"This is my most recent grow: Strain: Nine pound hammer Auto(Royalking seeds) Nutrients: CanaCoco A&B +
CalMag 3 gal air pot MARS HYDRO TSW 2000 LED GROW LIGHT 36x36x72 Tent Only one plant in tent Seed to harvest in 73

"1 counted 14 points. Female Sunday Driver 12 weeks old" ~Beane Wow, this one grew leaf tips in the middle of the front and the back. I don't think I've ever seen that before 😲
~Sirius ...and here we have an extremely rude plant giving us the finger...I think. "Greetings from the mothership! Would you be kind enough to advise me if this is male. It belongs to a friend and I have compared it to your photos. I’ve got to get back to my GrowWeedEasy studies. I see new stuff, man, you guy’s are AMAZING! Thank you kindly." ~Major Stamen The formation of the bud looks weird, but it's definitely bud. It reminds me of
another strain that grows just like this called "Cole Train" and also a bit like a chunkier Mr Grinspoon. Tell your friend "Congratulations"! 🎉🥂 ~Sirius
Can You Pass the FTC Phishing Quiz?
|
|
Take the quiz to see how prepared you are against phishing! Scams are so prevalent, the US government is doing pop quizzes! Today, rather than making a joke about scams, or showing you a funny picture, I'd like to bring your attention to a super-short quiz
from the FTC (US Federal Trade Commission) regarding phishing attacks. These aren't the exact type of scams you'll run into as a grower, but the information is still very helpful. If you got a minute and want to see how you measure up, click this link or the picture above and you'll be taken to a short 5-question quiz
that will grade you immediately. No one knows the results but you, so there's nothing to lose by trying. If you get an answer right, that's awesome! If you get an answer wrong, the quiz will teach you about a trick scammers use to steal money. That's a win/win in my book. Go try it out! (Note: While on the site above, you can click on any of the security quizzes in the sidebar to take other quizzes on avoiding scams.) Make sure to watch out for seed scams! Remember: Real seed businesses don't contact you. They let you contact them. If anyone messages you to sell you seeds on social media, look out! It's possible they will take your payment and send nothing. Always take a second to think before sending money to anyone, especially if they contact you (whether by DM, text message, phone call, email, etc.).

GrowWeedEasy.com has hundreds and hundreds of pages! Check out some articles you may not have seen... Which Nutrients Are Best For Growing Cannabis? - Cannabis plants love
light more than anything else, but they definitely love nutrients, too. There are roughly 40 million brands of nutrients, so finding the right one can be a bit tedious. Or, it would be tedious if we hadn't already made a list of great nutrients we've personally tried and tested. Click on the link above to see our list, or just do what I do and use General Hydroponics. How to
Check pH & Stop Cannabis Nutrient Deficiencies - Okay, I know I just said that nutrients and light are super important, but pH is just as important. When someone writes us about a potential nutrient problem with their plants, it's actually a pH problem roughly 99.99% of the time. If you make sure to take care of your plant's pH, they'll lead healthy and happy lives. If you neglect pH, prepare for your plants to act like spoiled, spoiled children. Submit Your Home-Grown Cannabis Pics! - Did you check out the "Trophy Pics of the Week" section? Pretty neat, right?
