Issue #580 - Sunday, June 4, 2023 Dear Fellow
Grower, In today's issue... - What is "Hop Latent Viroid" and why is it something you need to know about? If you've never heard of HLV, it's a virus that makes cannabis plants...crappy. Just plain crappy. But even though this virus is quickly spreading throughout the crops of
huge grow-ops, there's amazing news for folks who grow their own weed...
- What else could be coming for your cannabis?! Today I cover two insects that like to visit the outdoor cannabis garden. One is a friendly visitor, and one is a destructive invader!
- Get the overview of a 2019 study from Israeel which found that supplementing cannabis with humic acid during the flowering stage
can dramatically decrease bud potency!
- You all have sent in so many trophy pictures...and I can't stop enjoying them. We get chunky plants, new plants, trained plants, and quite a bit of oddities. Guess what, we love them all! Keep sending in that beautiful cannabis plant footage. Only some of the pictures will get featured on the newsletter (it might take a bit), but all of the pictures will be viewed and admired by
us!

Is dangerous is Hop Latent Viroid for growing cannabis? 🦠➕🌳➡🌱🤒
|
|
Have you heard about Hop Latent Viroid infecting cannabis plants? Unfortunately, HLVd is a cannabis plant pathogen that infects cannabis plants and causes a problem known as dudding disease (also called “dudders” or “dud”) or Putative Cannabis Infectious Agent (PCIA). This viroid has recently been infecting commercial marijuana growers and shutting down
entire weed farms. But what is it? Should home cannabis growers be worried about Hop Latent Viroid, and if your cannabis garden already has Hop Latent Viroid, what do you do to get rid of it? Get the answers today! The good news for home cannabis growers is that starting with seeds (instead of clones) ensures your plants don’t get Hop Latent
Viroid! Compare a healthy cannabis plant vs a cannabis plant with hop latent viroid: A healthy cannabis plant’s bud. A clone of the same strain and age, but infected with hop latent viroid
Could you have grasshoppers?

Grasshopper damage is often mistaken for caterpillar damage. Last week I talked about caterpillars, so this week I want to mention grasshoppers Grasshoppers can seem cute and harmless, until you realize they're voracious cannabis eaters! In fact, grasshoppers can cause crop deaths of almost biblical
proportions. Learn everything you need to know about grasshoppers This grasshopper acting like he's not a murderer

Bees won't hurt cannabis plants, but are they attracted to them? Not all bugs hate cannabis growers! Outdoor
growers may see bees visiting their cannabis plants and wonder, why do some bees like cannabis plants? Could the THC from flowering cannabis plants get into their honey? The answers may surprise you! Do Bees Like Cannabis Plants?

Review: Impact of N, P, K, and Humic Acid Supplementation
|
A study came out in 2019 that has important potential implications for home cannabis growers. The study found that supplementing cannabis plants with N, P, K, and Humic Acid in the flowering stage can affect a cannabis plant’s growth patterns and results at harvest. Not everyone loves reading science articles as much as I do, so I thought I’d share the results in plain words. Quick Overview: What findings may be most important to
cannabis growers? Humic acid supplementation during the flowering stage - lowered THC, especially on buds at the top of the plant (37% THC reduction in top buds)
Phosphorus supplementation during the flowering stage - reduced overall plant height
- reduced length of
buds
- reduced cannabinoid levels in sugar leaves (but not buds)

"Teachers, Thank you both for another wonderful newsletter! I just completed my first grow with Natures Living Soil (NLS) and couldn't be happier! This newsletter filled in a few questions I had about using NLS for tea...and some of the other teas. I know
this newsletter is a labor of love for both of you, it shows!" ~Groot The newsletter is definitely a labor of love, but this is still a massive compliment, especially from you! ~Sirius

"I have been using horse manure tea on my garden/cannabis for years. No burn and plants love it. Excellent article on teas ,thank you for such a great learning experience thru the years. I appreciate all you do. Oh and after your recommendation on spider farmer sf4000 lights I did it!! Holy Cow! These plants are huge bushy and packing up those gooey buds like crazy. Excellent buy could not be happier. And pocket book is happier with latest elec. bill lol. Thank you again Nebula, and Mr. Farside. Yeah I remember one of your peeps calling you that. I was calling ya
that also lol. Thank you Sir." ~Leathergal Teas are great for your plants with no downsides really. I'm glad they've been working out for you ~Sirius Farside 😂 "Check out this article. Good info inside." ~Pat
We frequently get our own newsletter forwarded back to us on accident with a message like this and I won't lie, it's great
every time. People sharing the newsletter with people they know says everything on its own 🙏 ~Sirius

"28 days into flower 😁" ~Ken That plant is already looking beastly at 28 days. By harvest it's going to have biceps and a protein shake habit 😂 ~Sirius

"Some photos I took after following your flowering defoliation guide. As you can see I need to remover more of the lower growth tips before flowering next time but I'm so scared to cut them off." ~Indy_Fi Couldn't have done it better myself. The .gif you made is gorgeous; many of us growers can appreciate the amount of time (months) and effort (lots) that it takes to document grows like this. ~Sirius I still have my Electric Sky 300s and they're great lights. Also, that cola is the width of a Louisville slugger! ~Sirius "Hello to you both, I’ve been growing for 6 years using your site as my source for knowledge. I use a variety of methods and try things, but not with much focus 🤪 ! This oddity is an AK48 auto. Started in March. Growing outdoors in SE Arizona. It started to flower a while ago, nice buds in the tops, etc. then I saw this, or should I say these! At first I thought, how can
an auto be male ? But, no pollen when these open, they become new flowers!
Am I thinking right or what? Thanks for all your great work and knowledge!"
~Phil Before we got a chance to respond, Phil had already figured it out... I have humble myself here. This
is indeed a male plant! I was fooled because it was an “auto” - it never occurred to me that they could be male! Duh… 🤪 First off, you get a gold star for figuring out what was going on. Second, that is a beefy boy plant; I bet it has a really deep voice! And lastly, don't be embarrassed. You figured out a problem, learned a lesson, and took a fantastic picture. That's an easy A+ from me

Don't Let Scammers Get Rich Off You!
|
|
More importantly, don't let them get Richie rich off you!
|
Make it rain, but only into your own bank account Scammers were able to pull in at least 8 billion dollars last year from innocent people, and that's just according to one count from the FTC. That's so much money that if it were depicted in the picture above, you wouldn't be able to see anything but the green of the cash itself. Scammers are rolling in the dough and we're all footing the
enormous bill. That's why we have to make sure to stay on the lookout for scams. Not just to protect your own money from scammers, but to protect everyone's money from these criminals. If we keep scammers broke and their methods don't work, they'll be forced to move on to something else. I'm betting whatever they move onto won't be good, but at least we'll have one problem solved! Make sure to watch out for seed scams! Remember: Real seed businesses don't contact you. They let you contact them. If anyone messages you to sell you seeds on social media, look out! It's possible they will take your payment and send nothing. Always take a second to think before sending money to anyone, especially if they contact you (whether by DM, text message, phone call, email,
etc.). Recommended Cannabis Seed Sources

getting Hop Latent Viroid is to grow plants from seed. You can even kick it up a notch and give your seeds a quick shower in a diluted Hydrogen Peroxide solution. Not only will your seeds pop faster due to a slightly weaker shell, but they'll be raised in an environment that's completely free of Hop Latent Viroid. Cannabis Tissue Culture: Grow Plants in a
Test Tube - It's 2023 and it certainly feels like we're in "the future". We have electric cars that can (kinda) drive themselves, publicly available drones that can fly for miles, and AI that can create stunning artwork or pass college exams. Growing your cannabis from a tissue culture in a test tube is about as futuristic, 2023 as you can get...for now. I'm waiting for the invention of a robotic gardening assistant! White Powdery Mildew - White Powdery Mildew (also known as WPM) is like Hop Latent Viroid in that it's a problem that starts out slow and then spreads to all the plants in the area. However, WPM is so much easier to get rid of that it seems downright merciful by comparison. While HLV has the ability to devastate the crops of an entire coast of the USA, WPM gets its butt kicked with just a small amount of care
and I love that about it.
