Issue #592 - Sunday, August 27, 2023 Dear Fellow Grower, In today's issue... - Here's a quick question: What is the best time to know the sex of a cannabis plant? The Answer: As soon as possible! If you're starting a grow with "regular" seeds, it's crucial to know the
sex of your plant ASAP so you don't waste time, money, or even accidentally pollinate other weed plants. Luckily, growers have come up with strategies to give you that info very early on...
- There's organic weed growing, and there's "organic" weed growing. Weirdly enough, those quotes mean a lot and there is a massive difference between the two. I'm not saying that one is necessarily better than the other, but if you want to grow organic weed, you might want to
know if you want quotation marks or not.
- Registration for our Home Grow Masterclass opens in just two days! We're very proud of the battle-tested course we've created, but we're even more proud of the reception we've received from our students. More info below!
- I'm not joking when I say that this week's "Trophy Pics of the Week" runs the full spectrum. It has highs, it has lows, and it has weird wonder. Either way, I
can pretty much guarantee that you're going to have your day at least somewhat improved by the beautiful pictures below.

The Ultimate Guide to Sexing Cannabis Plants Before the Flowering Stage 🚹🚺? 🔬🌿⏳🌷
|
|
Male cannabis plants don’t make buds; only female cannabis plants make buds. Yet naturally, with regular cannabis seeds, about 50% of cannabis plants end up being male. Cannabis Sex Matters: Female Buds vs Male Pollen Sacs (click for closeup). Male plants don’t make buds! Only female cannabis plants make buds. Male plants produce pollen sacs that are low in THC, not good to smoke, and cause nearby female buds to grow seeds. Unfortunately, male pollen sacs are not useful to most home cannabis growers unless you’re a breeder. Identify and remove male cannabis plants ASAP. When pollen sacs open up, they look
like white, yellow, green, or purple flowers (pretty!), but they spread pollen everywhere, which pollinates your female plants. Not good for bud quality. Additionally, male pollen sacs are harsh to smoke and don’t contain high levels of THC or other cannabinoids. Male pollen also causes female plants to produce small
yields of lower-potency, seedy buds. Most home growers should try to get male plants out of the grow room as soon as possible.
“True” Organic Growing vs Organic Nutrients
|
|
Organic cannabis is grown with soil and nutrients that are derived only from living things. What Does “Organic” Mean? If you’ve ever wondered what people are talking about when they refer to growing “organic” cannabis, what they mean is that everything used to grow the plant was derived from living things. This means that substances such as chemical salts, synthetic fertilizers, and
inorganic pesticides are never used as part of the marijuana growing process.
In nature, cannabis is almost always grown in purely organic conditions, and many growers want to re-create that same natural environment indoors. However, if you really want to copy nature as closely as possible, you have to do more than just buy organic nutrients and organic soil. Although you will get great results using regular organic soil with organic nutrients, the best taste and smell
benefits come from growing cannabis in “living” soil. “Living” Soil is a Solid Path to the Best Cannabis Bud Taste & Smell

"Hurricane Hilary’s Aftermath 🤬 Now I Have to Start Cloning & now my Lil Yield Iz just On Hold." ~StinknastyBeamer Damn man, I'm really sorry about your garden. That really is heartbreaking. I hope your next grow goes twice as well! ~Sirius

"This is my Freakshow in week 7 of 12/12. She was slow to start but once she took off, she really took off. The seeds came from Humboldt Seed Co., a promo from Seedsman." ~Kingfish Now that there is what we call a "beaut". Ain't that a beaut, yall? (not joking, by the way). Those Freakshow seeds aren't always available, so treasure those plants, my friend. ~Sirius "This was my first ScrOG. Strain is The White OG. Followed pretty much everything in your tutorials. 2 plants. Total dry was 10.2oz of amazing bud. Only my 3rd grow so I'm stoked. Had quite a bit of space left. Maybe 30%. And being new I may have over done the defoliation. No I definitely over did it. I'm hoping to improve on this for the next grow. Next on the list is Badazz OG Cheese. Huge foliage. Going to be a challenge. 28x55 tent. Total 500w." ~That Dudes Dad You did a great job! Don't forget to send us updates on the new tent. 500W in a tent of that
size could be a challenge, but it's doable and it could absolutely pack that tent with weed. 🌳🌳🌳 ~Sirius
Even More Crazy A** Seed Scams!
|
|
"This scam makes the others look almost honest by comparison"
|
Their seed scams blew my mind so hard, I had to talk about them again... Last week, we talked about a website selling scam seeds that cost $5,000 and claim to have 53%+ THC. We also briefly mentioned one of their strains that claims to be eternal and will "outlive you even if your just 18 years old". As crazy as those claims are, I wasn't prepared for what I found when I went back to this scam
site. This same company claims to have a strain... that came from out of this world. You heard right. They claim that a meteorite from a parallel dimension fell to Earth with cannabis seeds frozen inside them and were discovered by "a prominent Russian geologist". They also claim they are going to send 24 of these seeds back into space in case an asteroid destroys our planet. This officially classifies as "insultingly scammy". I don't think I need to point out how many things don't make sense about this story, but in short, they are liars with pants fully on fire. This is a classic situation to apply the quote, "If it sounds too good to be true, it is". So, if someone tries to sell you alien, dimension-hopping 66% THC space weed, that just might be a scam. Check out this link for our mini-article on these scam seeds, plus a link to the forum post. Make sure to watch out for seed scams! Remember: Real seed businesses don't contact you. They let you contact them. If anyone messages you to sell you seeds on social media, look out! It's possible they will take your payment and send
nothing. Always take a second to think before sending money to anyone, especially if they contact you (whether by DM, text message, phone call, email, etc.). Recommended Cannabis Seed Sources These sources have gotten great reviews from our readers:

- ILGM (I Love Growing Marijuana) – California, United States

GrowWeedEasy.com has hundreds and hundreds of pages! Check out some articles you may not have seen... Cannabis Pre-Flowers: Identify Sex of a Plant as Early as 3 Weeks Old (with
pics!) - This article is the precursor to today's article on figuring out the sex of a cannabis plant early. This method was taught to us by an awesome member on our Google Plus page when it was still around. Funnily enough, our Google Plus page was banned for being cannabis-related only months before Google Plus died as a platform. Was it karma? 🤷♀️😂 What Are “Feminized” Cannabis Seeds? - In short, feminized cannabis seeds allow you skip the entire problem we discuss in the articles above. The techniques in today's article are meant to help you determine sex, but with feminized seeds from a reputable company, you know you're raising female plants without having to think about it. Nebula and I use feminized seeds exclusively, just sayin'. How to Grow Cannabis in 10 Easy Steps - This might seem redundant, but it doesn't help to have female cannabis plants if you have no idea how to raise them. In fact, I think it's more painful to have a female plant you can't raise than to discover you're raising a male plant. Or, that would be true if there wasn't a ton of information on how to take care of your
babies. So I guess finding a male plant is worse now that I think about it...
