"Absorb what is useful, discard what is not, add what is uniquely your own." ~Bruce Lee
The first crispy leaf appears, like a brown spot on a perfect apple. “I’m sure it’s nothing,” you tell yourself.
But a few days later, imagine waking up to find a dry, crispy leaf wasteland where your beautiful, healthy green cannabis plants used to be. Some leaves have burnt edges, yellowing, or brown spots. You peer closer and notice many crispy leaves are tinged with brown or yellow undertones.
Alarm bells ring. You know your cannabis plant is crying for help, but what is the matter? Crispy leaves could signal environmental stress, improper watering, a nutrient issue, or even a pest infestation. Ultimately, crispy leaves are your cannabis plant telling you that something is disrupting its growth and leaf health. If you see symptoms spreading through your marijuana plant, you
need to react quickly. For example, this cannabis plant’s crispy, dry leaves with yellowing, curling, and spots are caused by a mixture of heat and light stress. Simply moving the grow light further away will help keep the dry leaves from spreading. Don’t wait!
Sometimes a nutrient problem can cause leaves to become dry and crispy, like this nitrogen toxicity. The sooner you fix the underlying issue, the sooner the symptoms stop getting worse.
If you ignore crispy cannabis leaves, the symptoms can spread from the leaves to the buds and you may end up with off-color, crispy buds after harvest (instead of beautiful, sticky buds).
Not necessarily the end of the world, but not ideal cannabis bud quality either.
Ever walked into your grow room and seen dry, crispy cannabis leaves? This frustrating problem can hit any grower, especially during the flowering stage while plants are putting most of their energy into making buds. But there’s good news – you CAN fix it! Let’s not waste any time worrying. It happens, and I’m here to help you figure out why. Chances are, it’s a simple fix and your plants will be rocking
those gorgeous buds soon enough. Click here to learn the 7 most common reasons for dry or crispy leaves (plus get the solutions!)
Common Seedling Problems & MistakesAre your cannabis seedlings drooping, yellowing, growing slow, or just…weird? Don’t panic! This guide will help you quickly figure out what’s wrong and get your babies back on track. Your seedlings should look happy and healthy like these ones!
But perhaps you're seeing some of the following symptoms... Too tall?
Indoor Strain Suggestions from Readers! Last week we asked you all for your favorite indoor strains. While we develop the ultimate cannabis strain guide, I wanted to share some of the strain suggestions along with the comments we got. Recommended Indoor Strains - Fast Buds strains - You all really love autoflowering strains by FastBuds! Suggestions included...
- Mexican Airlines Auto and Tangie'matic - "I've had great results with FastBuds auto's - training is only topping at node 5 and pulling away from center-
nothing fancy. Tangie Matic is a good starting place for any grower who wants a social high as it's as close to pure sativa you will get in an autoflower and has their second highest yield, giving a good harvest even when problems are encountered. But Mexican Airlines is my favorite strain for growing indoors. (I no longer transplant FastBuds seeds-as they do very well direct planting in final container)"
- LSD-25 Auto - "I grew two LSD 25 autos by fastbuds. One stayed short with beautiful dark purple buds with white pistils. The other got taller, with a skinnier profile and a bit less purple than her sister. Easy indoor grow and good yield and effects."
- West Coast O.G. Auto - "West coast og(auto) totally frosted up in that very beautiful way that they're known for. Looked and smoked like photoperiod buds."
- White Widow - "My favorite indoor strain is an oldie, White Widow. Grows well whether in a small closet or a tent and gives a good yield even with the bare minimum of care. The only downside (if you can call it that) is the skunky stink that emanates from a week into veg on."
- Euphoria and Blue Dream - "I can vouch for 'Euphoria' and 'Blue dream' for growing indoors. Euphoria being a sativa will give you that energetic, euphoric head high. Blue dream is a hybrid I believe. Personally gives me an amazing buzz at the start, i find it hard to sit still... However
tends to couch lock as the high 'wears off'. Neither give me the munchies, which is a plus. Hope this helps someone."
Don't hesitate to hit reply and let us know your favorite indoor strain if you feel like we missed a great one. Here's a Blue Dream plant getting big
and chunky indoors!
Australian Growers: Have you tried The Vault, Gorilla Seeds, or Mediseedman?
|
I just wanted to share this note. Many seed companies do not guarantee shipping to Australia, which mean you're out of luck if your seeds get lost in the mail. Last week, we mentioned that one our students let us know that Herbies Seed Shop actually guarantees shipping to Australia. However, we had an Australian grower let us know that he personally didn't have a great experience with Herbies, and instead recommended The Vault and Gorilla Seed Bank as great seed sources for Australian growers. Another grower recommended Mediseedman, which is based in
Australia, with the note, "Couldn’t say whether the Mediseedman genetics would match say a Fast Buds strain ( highly unlikely) but being local doesn’t go through customs so you will definitely get delivery. In terms of quality all mine have popped and it gets me stoned so objective complete." If you have experience with any of them (Herbies, Vault, Gorilla, Mediseedman), regardless of where you live, let us know what you think by hitting the reply button and sending us a quick email. It helps people get seeds around the world to hear from their fellow growers on what works!

"Howdy! Just wanted to say thanks for your wonderful website. My beautiful plants started getting brown patches on the lower leaves a month into their grow. Your site helped me correctly identify the issue as PH. After correcting the PH they showed an almost immediate improvement." ~
John
It's so counterintuitive that the pH at the roots being high or low can cause nutrient deficiencies (here's a picture reference of pH problems for anyone who's
wondering if pH is causing their symptoms). I'm glad the website was able to help you pin down the issue! Don't hesitate to send us pictures of your plants! ~Nebula

Ms. Nebula and Mr. Sirius, Thank you for always delivering a great read on a Sunday morning. I never fail to learn something every week and I most likely wouldn't be growing without your help. Whenever a fellow grower has a question, I point them to you. So thank you. A quick pic from one of the current grows. Left is Chemical Romance (D42) and right is Girl Scout Monkeys (D60). Both are autoflowers from Mephisto Genetics. Growing with all organic inputs, in living soil in Earthboxes. If you haven't done so lately, check out Mephisto's website. They've come a long way and have a great selection of strains in stock. I'm loving the auto flowers and the living soil/organic growing. Again, thank you both for what is, imho, "the reference site" for all things growing weed. ~Cosmo
Stardrive Thank you so much for directing other growers to GrowWeedEasy.com. This is the #1 way any grower can help us out! Your plants look amazing. They obviously love what you're doing. Mephisto Genetics is one of the best autoflowering breeders. I know you're going to be pleased with your buds at harvest! I haven't tried an Earthbox yet, but the idea is intriguing. Like a better hempy bucket. Perhaps we'll try one this summer for an outdoor grow! ~Nebula

cannabis can be a relaxing hobby in and of itself, but it also saves you money and keeps you from having to deal with shady characters. Cannabis is much easier to grow than people give it credit for, and growing in water doesn't increase the difficulty much, if any.
