Issue #690 - Sunday, July 13, 2025 Hey grower! In today's issue... - Tall, lanky and unruly? No, we're not talking about your teenaged nephew with niche music taste. We're talking about cannabis plants that will grow into redwoods if left unchecked. Learn how to wrangle them the right
way!
- How can you tell which strains handle the heat? On average, tall and "stretchy" strains tend to withstand high temperatures better than short and stout strains. See pictures, then discover 14 heat-resistant strains!
- It's the most wonderful time of year! And it happens every few months depending on your setup. I'm talking about harvest time, and our autos are already thinking about their retirement
plans...
- Grower Spotlight: I'm ready for my close-up! We love all the beautiful pics you send of your cannabis plants, but I have to admit, these outdoor shots are their own kind of special...

...or big enough to perfectly fill any grow space.
It's easy to control marijuana plant height, but you need to understand 3 things. Once you understand these three principles, you'll be able to force indoor cannabis plants to grow into the exact shape and size that you want. - Set up for height control - Choose the right setup (pot size, grow medium, grow light, strain) to naturally help cannabis plants grow to the size you want.
Details below.
- Plant training - Learn how to force plants to grow flat and wide instead of tall (or whatever shape you want), and discover techniques to reduce the size of out-of-control marijuana plants.
- Flowering stretch - Understand how plant height is affected in the "flowering stage" and how to use this to your advantage.
Let me go through those quickly. Soon you'll be able to create marijuana plants in whatever size and shape
you want. Today, learn how to avoid growing crazy or out of control cannabis plants!
Which Cannabis Strains are Heat-Resistant?Some strains naturally thrive in high temperatures. Every cannabis strain is different when it comes to temperature. Some strains of marijuana are easily stressed by heat, while other strains would thrive in the exact same hot environment or even prefer it. Heat-sensitive strains often grow short and bushy (though not
always). Strains that can handle the heat tend to grow tall, stretchy, with thinner leaves. As a very general rule of thumb...
Cannabis genetics that come from a cold climate tend to be more heat-sensitive, though many hybrids of these strains have been mixed with heat-resistant strains to make them more suitable for warmer climates. You can get a clue of a plant’s heritage from how it grows. It also helps to look at the breeder’s description to see if it mentions anything about heat.
Autoflowering Grow Journal Update: Bud City at Day 56! Here the plants are 56 days old from germination.
Buds, buds, everywhere! Last week I talked about the 3 strains in the front, and this week I'm going to talk about the 3 strains in the
back! Zkittlez Auto (back left plant) looks green and happy with buds all over. All the buds are covered in straight white hairs, which means they still need time to mature. I love how this Zkittlez plant responded to being topped. It naturally grew into an excellent shape to maximize
yields. Zkittlez Auto
White Widow XXL Auto (back middle plant) These buds are fattening and maturing fast, emanating a true old school "White Widow" scent. White Widow XXL
Auto
I noticed a few brown spots on the White Widow and Critical Orange Punch, likely from incorrect pH at the roots. Those plants also look a bit pale, as if they need higher nutrient levels. I made them their own batch of water with higher
nutrient levels and adjusted pH. Big buds need a lot of nutrients, and strains that grow huge buds tend to need higher nutrient levels and be more sensitive to pH problems. High-yielding plants just want a little TLC. Note: If you see deficiencies on your leaves, GrowWeedEasy.com has a free
tool to identify the problem and give you the solution. OG Kush Auto (back right plant) shows how genetics affects plant growth. This and the above plant are the same age and get the same care, yet their structures are vastly different, with buds
maturing at dramatically different rates. Something notable about this OG Kush Auto plant is how THICK the stems are. Rarely do plants grow such thick stems. I wonder... are they hard and woody or hollow and flimsy? I will find out at harvest. OG Kush Auto
Have you ever grown a strain with thick or unusual stems? Feel free to reply to this email and send pictures, we'd love to see them! Some of these plants have a while to go, as you can see. But some are actually pretty close to harvest already! Perhaps we'll harvest our first plant next week... Stay tuned! Nebula
