Why the First Few Grows Can Seem So Tough… by Sirius Fourside – Grow smarter: LEDs for weed, setting up right, sick plant fixes, effective nutrients, reliable seeds. I’m not ashamed to admit my first few grows ended in failure. The culprit? Bad information, over-priced products, and a dash of over-zealousness. My earliest plants didn't even see the light of harvest day. This
plant was doing so well, but it suddenly got sick less than a month away from harvest!
After some time and practice, I can now grow more high-quality bud than I can use while expending a minimal amount of time and effort. These days, I grow more weed than I can use. Time to make Hash Oil and rosin!
But I’m not special… I can honestly say that I’m no artist, prodigy, phenom, or anything even remotely close to those things. I just learned how to fix a few mistakes that were holding me back as a grower, and today I’m going to go through some of those common setbacks and make sure they don’t set you back! Mistake 1: Giving Plants Too Much LoveIs it possible to love something too much? I’d say my wife Nebula might love cats too much. A baker in my
neighborhood once told me I love desserts too much (that really happened, and he was right).
Germination Day: See the Babies! Today marks germination day of our "Seed to Weed" autoflowering grow journal.
To germinate these seeds, I used the wet paper towel method. Basically I put the seeds between cheap wet paper towels (don't use the expensive cloth-like ones or roots may grow into them!). Then I enclosed everything between two plates. This ensures the paper towels don't dry out. The seeds get a lovely moist, dark environment for germination.
I put the plates on a seedling heating mat to provide extra warmth. This isn't necessary but increases both germination rates and speed. I added an extra seedling tray in between to make sure the seeds don't get too hot. Get the full instructions on this germination method.
The plan is to pick the top 6 autoflowering seedlings for our grow journal. All the extra seedlings are going into other grow spaces. I'll share sneak peeks of them throughout the grow journal! Next week, I should have some happy seedlings to show you! The race has started. With autoflowering strains, we can expect to
harvest in less than 90 days from germination day. Follow along as we take these strains from seed to weed!

Sirius Fourside: Sirius Fourside is a hobbyist grower who has gained the bulk of his experience growing in water as a medium (deep water culture, bubbleponics). "Growing
cannabis can be a relaxing hobby in and of itself, but it also saves you money and keeps you from having to deal with shady characters. Cannabis is much easier to grow than people give it credit for, and growing in water doesn't increase the difficulty much, if any. But whether you want to grow in water, coco, or a different medium, we'll show you how easy it can be!"
